Venice filmfest to host Iran’s restored ‘Harmonica’

Iranian feature ‘Harmonica’ has been set to hit the screen at the 2023 edition of the Venice International Film Festival (Biennale Venice 2023) in Italy.

Directed by Amir Naderi, the Iranian classic film will be among the works to compete for the Best Restored Film prize at the Venice Classics program of the 80th edition of the event.

“Children are the protagonists of one of Amir Naderi's first movies, Harmonica (Saaz Dahani, not seen for years), set in a sunny, coastal Iran that you wouldn't expect,” according to the official website of the event.

The film narrates the story of a little boy named Amiroo, who is willing to sacrifice whatever it takes to get close to the harmonica that another boy has received as a gift from abroad.

Iran’s Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults has restored ‘Harmonica’ that was originally filmed in 1973.

Since 2012, the Venice Classics is the section that has presented world premiere screenings of a selection of the best restorations of film classics carried out over the past year by film archives, cultural institutions and production companies around the world.

The Venice International Film Festival is one of the oldest film festivals in the world and one of the most important film events in Europe.

This year’s edition of the event is slated for August 30-September 09.
